SASSA Pension Hike 2025: Steps To Claim R5,000 And Verify Payment

A pension increase of up to R5,000 in 2025 has been reported by SA Social Security to bring some relief to pensioners. Paying it out under the present grant system is not considered yet, but it is under consideration as a possible long-term improvement to social grants, particularly when it comes to the elderly and other vulnerable groups of people. What follows is information about the R5,000 pension increase, how to check your grant status, and how to claim any extra amounts.

Is There Really a R5,000 SASSA Pension 2025?

The current standard Social Pension grant from SASSA, as of mid-2025, is R2,315 per month for any beneficiary aged 60 and over and R2,335 for beneficiaries aged older than 75. However, talk of a R5,000 grant has surfaced in Parliament and movements to pursue a Basic Income Grant or pension reform on a very grand scale.

The amount of R5,000 would be the new future target grant or a one-time cash grant for living expenses upon pensioners. This has not yet been decided to be implemented as part of a monthly payment in due course, so all potential beneficiaries should follow official media reporting by SASSA and the Department of Social Development.
